Amazing armour and weapons.

Wallace Collection Armoury Armoured Man on Horseback

Part of the Wallace Collection which also contains many notable works of art.

The armoury is on the ground floor.  I suppose, for the gentry, such items were as much a statement of status as utilitarian. There purpose may not be so admirable to a more enlightened world but the workmanship, its alternate uses and the attendant history are best not forgotten.

There is more of this past at the Tower of London/White Tower.

  1. Fascinating! I have the Wallace name in my maternal line but I haven’t traced out of the U.S. yet! Family talk had it going back to Scotland. But then, who doesn’t go back to Ireland, Scotland and England somewhere along the way! LOL!

  2. I love medieval history, and played in the SCA for a short time when I lived in Arizona. While I’m fascinated with that time, I’m glad I don’t live it for real…lol.
