Still Here…

We are still soldiering on. My husband has an appointment with a neurologist on Monday – we will see what she has to say.

To add to the excitement, the specialist is in Johannesburg. I don’t know my way around Johannesburg. My husband always used to drive in Johannesburg. I bought a GPS system that I haven’t had time to learn how to use. My next post may be from outer (or inner) Mongolia. I have no sense of direction – I mean that seriously as in I don’t know my left from my right. I’m mostly right handed, but do quite a few things left handed, and also switch around numbers, like 34 and 43. They would probably have a fancy name for it today. Suffice it to say I get lost VERY easily. I will not give my opinion of people who ‘turn west onto the freeway’. Cardinal points are for people in boats.

The dog and the cat have both been to the vet recently and are on medication. If the cockatiel starts anything, I’m resigning. (FYI the spellcheck doesn’t know what a cockatiel is – it suggested cockatrice which would be interesting, but difficult to fit in the cage)

One always hears about how little appreciation women get for the work they do, but I never realised just how much my husband did with keeping yard and garden in order. The lawn needs mowing, the flower beds need weeding and I’m the one who could kill a plastic daffodil. I think it really hit me that something serious was going on when I realised the lawn he spent days replanting last year was dying for lack of water.

I am still knitting and tatting – just rather sporadically. My brain is mush.

I have started another blog – marked private – where I do all my ranting. I need to get it out somehow. Yelling and swearing might upset the neighbours…

  1. It is the car that would go downhill if my husband was out of order for a bit. Good luck with the neurologist. And what a good idea to have a private email where you can behave badly. I have thought about that but am terrified someone might find it!

  2. Well, I have to let you know that in all the sadness of the situation, you have made me laugh hysterically while you were baring your soul on your inability to function. Please keep your sense of humor because it is priceless. All I can say is keep your head up and take one day at a time. You will become stronger each day and will surprise yourself at what you will conquer. My prayers are with you and your husband. 🙂

I’m sorry to laugh at your plight, but you did have a humorous way of expressing your dire consequences. Great post. It was so reminiscent of a Tina Fey skit. I hope your hubby gets better soon.

You are in my prayers…. Also admit that I’m still snickering about you killing that plastic daffodil & the mental image of you trying to fit a cockatrice into a bird cage.

Praying for you all. Everything will work out!

Hope things work out well for all of you and sooner rather than later.

Dyscalculia. Most people usually just say mathematic dyslexia. I’m also afflicted.
Good luck with the drive. Sorry you’ve got so much stress and worry right now.

      Thanks. Thing are pretty hectic.
As far as the driving goes, I will be in a pickup with a Free State (area known for farming and not much else) number plate. Hopefully the locals will except me to be less than competent… 😉

I’m the same when it comes to finding my way and sense of direction. Funny, because I learned to make maps, geodesy, I can turn a satellite picture into map as well – but when it is reversed and I must find something from the map in real world, I get completely lost. And it’s a hopeless case 😉

I hope everything goes well in Johannesburg. Good that you have this new blog where you can vent and write about everything. My parents took care of my grandmother with Alzheimer’s for 10 years and I helped whenever I could, so this topic is very close to me and I know you need all the support you can get, including the chance to tell about your feelings, even if it’s just on a blog. Sending my best thoughts and support!

Hugs. Very funny image of you mowing a field of plastic daffodils sprang into my mind.
Good idea using a private blog. 🙂
Oh, if you get lost, pull over and ask directions from the first two people you see. If the directions are exactly the same, follow them to your destination. Or pay a taxi driver to lead the way to your destination, That works well, if a little expensive. 🙂

Good luck!!! I am sure you will get there eventually.

Glad you found a way to vent, it can only help.

  11. Sending you all the best wishes!

    sending hugs and love xxx

  13. Rant away. Its YOUR prerogative to do so. I do, as you may have noticed.
If it makes you feel just a little bit better that’s justification enough
